It's Here! The Unofficial (and only) SCE Commencement 2007 "Yearbook"

Friends and family of SCE's graduating class turned out en masse to celebrate their loved one's accomplishments. Flip through the "yearbook" for a recap of the Class Day and University Commencement ceremonies.

The SCE graduating class hailed from the following graduate programs:

For students diligently moving towards the light at the end of the tunnel in these programs and others, keep going, remember whatever your motivation for being in the program is (write it down and tape it to your bathroom mirror if you need to), keep your GPA up, and you'll get there before you know it!

And if you suspect you'll be graduating next year - because you have fulfilled satisfactorily the requirements of the School of Continuing Education and your program - make sure you know what to do (and when) in order to don the Columbia Blue cap 'n' gown. Visit the Graduating Students link within the Student Affairs website, talk with an advisor or your program director to make sure you're on track, keep your GPA up, stay informed, and never lose your sense of humor - it's what will get you through the hurdles!

School of Continuing Educations Honors Its Grads

On Tuesday, May 15th, the School of Continuing Education at Columbia University will honor the graduates of 2007 during a Class Day ceremony and reception where over 100 students from the Strategic Communications, Technology Management, Fundraising Management and Landscape Design M.S. programs are scheduled to toss their caps in the air. Acting Dean Peter Awn will welcome the candidates and their guests and Kate D. Levin, Commissioner, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, will deliver the keynote address. On Wednesday, May 16th, the University will confer degrees on over 12,000 students during the standing-room-only Columbia University commencement main event. Columbia Sets the Stage for Commencement, Speakers

amphitheater - the signs of Columbia University's 2007 Commencement are all around us. And as is the tradition, an impressive line-up of speakers and honorees will be present to give this year's graduates a proper send off. Can't Make it to Graduation Activities? Here's How to Get Your Diploma

Those of you who will not be attending either Class Day or Commencement you can pick up your diplomas in 210 Kent Hall any time after graduation on May 16th.

The registrar's office will begin mailing them shortly after graduation. However, there are thousands of diplomas and it may take some time. (Reminder: For those that will be attending Wednesday Commencement events, diplomas will be available in room 602 Lewisohn directly after the event.)

More Information Regarding SCE's Class Day ceremony on Tuesday, May 15th

-Candidates should arrive for the Class Day ceremony at 4:00 p.m. and report to the lobby of Roone Arledge Auditorium. There you will be greeted by Marshals, who will instruct you where to assemble. It is imperative that you arrive on time and that you wear your academic regalia. Remember to bring your ID card with you.

-Please direct your guests to enter the Auditorium via the Broadway entrance (see campus map: http://www.columbia.edu/about_columbia/map/) and inform them that the processional begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. The entire ceremony will take one hour; a reception on the 5th Floor of Lerner Hall will follow. Cocktails, soft drinks and a full buffet will be served.

-Word regarding where Continuing Education students will assemble and line up on Commencement morning is forthcoming. As soon as we have that information we'll send it to you. We ask for your patience on this matter.

-Below is a list (cobbled from previous emails) that includes information about everything from regalia to Diploma pick-up to ticket pick-up to RSVP'ing for Class Day and Commencement.

TICKET PICK-UP
Tickets for Class Day and Commencement (candidates themselves do not need tickets to attend either ceremony) are available for pick-up Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in 203 Lewisohn. They must be picked up by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14th.

RSVP
If you have not already done so, please RSVP for both Class Day and Commencement by Donia Allen at da120@columbia.edu and let her know whether or not you plan to attend. You do not need to give the number of guests you need tickets for, only need to know whether or not you'll be attending. Please do this as soon as possible.

REGALIA
You must wear academic regalia to both Class Day and Commencement. If you have not already purchased your regalia, please do so immediately. For information regarding regalia, please visit the Columbia Bookstore's website at http://www.columbiabookstore.com/.

COMMENCEMENT
Columbia's 253rd Commencement will take place on Wednesday, May 16th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The University's official Commencement website is:

DIPLOMAS
Diplomas will be distributed immediately after the Commencement ceremony on May 16th in 602 Lewisohn Hall.

Class Day and Commencement Ticket Information

Tickets for both the Class Day and Commencement events will be available beginning on Monday, April 30th, in 203 Lewisohn Hall, between 10 a.m and 6 p.pm until Monday, May 14th at 6 p.m. The staff at the front desk in 203 Lewisohn will be happy to help you.

CLASS DAY TICKETS
There are enough Class Day tickets to go around. Please be reasonable and only ask for the number of tickets that you really need. When you come to 203 Lewisohn to pick up tickets, simply ask for the number that you need.

COMMENCEMENT TICKETS
Students are limited to 4 tickets for Commencement. This is a hard and fast rule, one that is mandated by the University. Requests for more than 4 tickets to Commencement cannot be accommodated.

RSVP
Please RSVP for both Class Day and Commencement by sending an email to Donia Allen, Student Affairs Officer, and letting her know whether or not you'll be attending. You do not need to give the number of guests you need tickets for. She only needs to know whether or not you'll be attending.

2007 Commencement Information

Columbia University's 253rd Commencement will take place on Wednesday, May 16th, 2007. Class Day, the School of Continuing Education's graduation festivities, will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, from 5 - 7 p.m. in Roone Arledge Auditorium in Lerner Hall followed by a reception.

From Tuesday, March 20th to Thursday, March 22nd, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Columbia University Bookstore in Lerner Hall will hold its annual Grad Fair. Master gowns will be available beginning on March 20th through Commencement day. During the Grad Fair various vendors for items such as class rings and diploma frames will be available. Special discounts will be offered. A coupon for these various discounts has been emailed out. Contact SCE Student Affairs if you need to have the coupon resent.

Columbia University Regalia is designed with Columbia Blue Fabric with Columbia Crowns embroidered on the front panels. Students are required to wear Regalia to Class Day and to Commencement. Fees for purchasing regalia for Master's students are as follows:

Masters - Cap, Gown, Tassel, $50
Masters Degree candidates living outside the NYC area may have their regalia shipped to them.

The last day for students to order regalia without a $20 late fee is April 6th. Orders placed after this date will be available for pick-up in the bookstore on May 1st.
